Do I have to appear in court?

Yes.  After your bankruptcy petition has been filed, you will be required to appear at the First Meeting of Creditors (also known as your 341 Meeting).  You will receive a notice in the mail approximately one week after your case has been filed informing you of the date and time you are required to appear.  You are also required to bring a state issued, picture ID (like your driver’s license or state ID card) and proof of your social security number (such as your social security card or a 1099/W2 from the previous tax year).  This should be the only time you have to appear in court.

The First Meeting of Creditors is held at:

308 West State Street

Room 40
Rockford, IL 61101

This address is the Stewart Square Building near the intersection of West State Street and South Main Street in downtown Rockford.  See the map below for directions.  Room 40 is in the basement of the building.  Your portion of the meeting should take approximately 10 - 15 minutes, however, please plan to park for up to an hour.

Casual attire is acceptable.
